SSL Checker Extension Privacy Policy

This policy explains how the SSL Checker Chrome extension handles information when you use it to check SSL certificate and Whois details.

Last updated: August 6, 2026

Single Purpose

SSL Checker helps users check SSL certificate validity, expiration date, issuer, SAN domains, and Whois information for the website currently open in the active Chrome tab.

Information Processed by the Extension

When you open the extension popup, SSL Checker reads the URL of the currently active Chrome tab and extracts the hostname, such as example.com. The extension uses that hostname to request SSL certificate and Whois lookup results from rightssl.com.

SSL Checker does not read or collect page content, form entries, passwords, authentication credentials, personal communications, keystrokes, mouse activity, or full browsing history.

API Requests and Server Logs

The hostname being checked is sent to RightSSL API endpoints so the service can return SSL certificate and Whois information. These API responses are used only to display the requested lookup results in the extension.

Our servers may receive standard technical information such as IP address, request time, user agent, requested hostname, response status, and similar API request metadata. This information is used for service operation, abuse prevention, rate limiting, security monitoring, troubleshooting, and reliability.

How Information Is Used

We use the submitted hostname only to provide SSL certificate and Whois lookup results requested by the user.

We use technical server logs to operate the API, diagnose errors, prevent abuse, enforce rate limits, and protect the security and availability of the service.

Remote Code

SSL Checker does not load or execute remote code. All extension JavaScript, HTML, and CSS are packaged inside the extension. The extension only sends HTTPS API requests to rightssl.com and displays the returned JSON data.

Data Sharing

We do not sell user data.

We do not use or transfer user data for purposes unrelated to SSL Checker's single purpose.

We do not use or transfer user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.

We do not share user data with third parties except when necessary to operate the service, comply with law, prevent abuse, protect the service, or use infrastructure providers that help us host and secure the API.

Data Retention

We do not store submitted hostnames for advertising or user profiling.

Standard server logs may be retained temporarily for security, debugging, rate limiting, abuse prevention, and service operation. Logs are kept only as long as reasonably necessary for those purposes unless a longer period is required by law or security needs.

Security

Communication between the extension and rightssl.com uses HTTPS.

No online service can guarantee perfect security, but we use reasonable technical measures to protect the service and limit misuse.
